Latin for:

fertile, productive; auspicious, prosperous; lucky, happy, fortunate

Quasi-acronom for:

Forward ELastic and Inelastic EXperiment at the LHC

A survey instrument at the LHC, sensitive to everything, optimized for nothing, i.e. a detector with good capabilities to see the unexpected as well as engineered discoveries. (J.D.Bjorken)
